Description:
The second seminar in the Mystery Science Seminar series will include the effects of various wavelengths across the entire spectrum. Students will operate several cameras in visible, near-infrared, and mid-infrared wavelengths as well as a high speed camera to slow down everyday objects, such as a mousetrap, to fully understand how they operate. This seminar will include some reinforcement from the first seminar in the areas of phosphorescence and luminescence. Students will measure the strength of phosphorescent and luminescent items such as minerals and food items.
The Mystery Science Seminar series is being hosted this year by Joe Domanico. There will be a total of four seminars, spread out throughout this year, given on the third Saturday of the month. Mr. Domanico is a 2015 recipient of the STEM Innovator Award from the Northeastern Maryland Technology Council and has been chosen as a Paul Harris Fellow by the Southern Harford Rotary Club. He has been involved in STEM activities for over 15 years and is best known for his energetic chemistry demonstrations. He joins us this year to discuss and demonstrate various topics to include phosphorescence, luminescence, the electromagnetic spectrum, sound and light, and the joining of various STEM topics in his passion for COSPLAY.
