Description: Everything in the physical world is either matter or energy. All matter is composed of atoms arranged in different ways. How many parts are in an atom? What makes atoms different – how is a gold atom different from an oxygen atom? How do atoms build the physical things we can see and touch? What makes atoms combine? Come apart? Become radioactive? Absorb and give off light? This session will investigate the periodic table, which organizes the atom building blocks of matter, and explore fluorescence using ultraviolet light. Participants will build models of the atoms of the most common elements that form the human body.
