The Discovery Center at Water’s Edge regular hours are THU: 9am–2pm; FRI: 10am–6pm; SAT: 10am–6pm; SUN: Closed; MON: Closed, except holidays where schools are closed; TUE: Closed (field trips); WED: Closed. If you are attending a class, workshop, field trip, birthday party, or other reserved function, please arrive at the scheduled location a few minutes early from the scheduled time. The Discovery Center will be closed Dec. 15, 2023, for a scheduled field trip. Description: Have you ever wondered about all the things we use every day. The roads, bridges, homes and buildings we live in? What is the difference between an Engineer and a Scientist and what do these people do every day that affects our lives? Could I be an Engineer; and if I were, what might I work on?
In this presentation we will demonstrate how bridges are made. What makes them so strong and what makes them last so long? We will learn a little about the construction of bridges and then build one ourselves. How will we make our bridge as strong as possible while weighing as little as possible? We will have a hands-on activity where participants build bridges using K’Nex parts and then test them for strength. Students will compete to see who can make the lightest, strongest bridge.
